A 5-Day Snowshoeing Adventure

Embark on a five-day journey through the stunning landscapes of the Aragonese Pyrenees, where snow-capped peaks, frozen lakes, and historic villages await. Starting in the picturesque valley town of Canfranc, this itinerary combines daily snowshoeing adventures with moments of cultural discovery and relaxation. Each day reveals a new side of the region: from the architectural marvel of Canfranc International Station to the untouched wilderness of Ibon de Estanés and the peaceful charm of Aísa Valley.

Led by knowledgeable guides, you will traverse serene forests, border-crossing trails, and the frozen lakes of Astún, all while surrounded by breathtaking mountain panoramas. Nights are spent at the Hotel Reina Felicia, offering well-earned comfort and relaxation after each day’s excursion. A mid-trip visit to the historic city of Jaca provides a taste of the area’s medieval heritage and local culture.

Whether you are a seasoned winter traveller or new to snowshoeing, this journey offers an accessible, enriching way to experience the heart of the Pyrenees in winter. Perfect for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts alike, this trip promises a memorable blend of physical challenge, natural beauty, and cultural immersion.

 

Día 1

Arrival at Bibao Airport (3 hours), followed by a transfer to Hotel Reina Felicia, a comfortable retreat perfect for relaxation after travel. Dinner and a relaxing evening. Overnight stay.



Día 2

Breakfast. Set out on a snowshoe hike to Ibon de Estanés, a beautiful glacial lake. This classic trail begins with a peaceful stroll through a beech and fir forest, crossing scenic footbridges before ascending toward Lac d’Estaens. The route merges with Senda del Camille, winding along the Spain-France border and meeting the GR-11 trail. After taking in the views of the lake, we will retrace our steps back to the trailhead and transfer back to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit to Canfranc Station (time permitting): Explore the charming village and its iconic Canfranc International Station. Known for its mix of architectural styles, this historic rail station was once one of Europe’s grandest transit hubs and has recently been restored, offering stunning views and intriguing stories. Dinner and relaxation at the hotel.



Día 3

Breakfast. Begin a snowshoe hike through the frozen landscapes of the Ibones de Astún, exploring the winter beauty of Ibon de Escalar and Ibon de las Truchas. Near Pico del Monje, the route offers sweeping views across to France and the dramatic Midi d'Ossau peak. In the afternoon, we will visit Jaca, an ancient city known for its 11th-century Jaca Cathedral (one of Spain’s oldest) and the Ciudadela, a unique 16th-century fortress with a moat. Stroll through the charming old town with its shops, cafes, and local landmarks. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.



Día 4

Breakfast. Venture into the Aísa Valley for a to Llanos de Igüer, a lesser-known gem of the Aragonese Pyrenees with panoramic views of towering peaks like Aspe, Llena de la Garganta, and Mallos de Lecherín. This secluded valley is a peaceful winter retreat, offering stunning, untouched landscapes. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy against the mountain backdrop, or opt for a meal in the nearby village of Aísa. After the hike, take a leisurely walk through Aísa, a quaint mountain town with rustic architecture and traditional stone houses. Transfer back to the hotel, dinner, and a final night’s rest.



Día 5

Breakfast. Transfer to Bilbao Airport for your departure. End of services.

  • Picnic lunch.  It can be purchased in the hotel or local shops.

TOUR STRUCTURE

The tour company reserves the right to make changes to the structure of the tour program in advance of the tour start date where it considers it necessary to do so & will consult with the clients in advance. The circumstances where changes may be required may include weather conditions, flight/airport connection changes, cost increases of hotels, transport, guides or such other events that are material to the company not incurring a financial loss.

  

DEPOSIT

A deposit of 20% is required to reserve a place on Tour.  The Deposit should be paid immediately to ensure that the tour company Rumbo a Picos can confirm your reservation & to ensure that the minimum number required to run the Tour has been reached. 

 

FINAL PAYMENT

Final payment must be made not later than 30 days before the tour start date.  

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

 

  • The tour company Rumbo a Picos reserves the right to cancel the tour if there are not the minimum number of participants, up to 30 days prior to the tour start date.  In the event of such cancellation, participants shall be refunded 100% of the payments they have made to the tour company Rumbo a Picos. The refund shall be made by Bank Transfer to the client’s bank account within 7 days of the notified cancellation. 
  • If the client cancels his/her booking prior to the tour start date,  to cover the tour company’s costs & administrative expenses, the company will retain for a cancellation prior to 90days/€50, 60days/€100, 30days/€150 and will refund to the client all other payments received by the company from the client.
  • If the client cancels his/her booking within 30 days of the tour start date, the tour company will not make any refund to the client.
  • The tour company reserves the right to modify the tour program & the itinerary in the event of circumstances outside of its control such as Force Majure, severe or unsuitable weather or any other circumstances it considers necessary to ensure the safety of the tour participants. 
  • If a participant decides to abandon the tour for whatever reason, he/she should inform the Guide in writing of their decision.  Any related expenses must be paid by the participant.  

 

INSURANCES

 

INSURANCE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE. This insurance covers exclusively the risks related to your hiking activities with us and as a passenger in our company transport foreseen in the trip. It does not cover travel insurance.  

All customers must have travel and medical insurance. They should bring a copy with them, and give it to the Rumbo a Picos leading guides at the start of the trip. Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and travel cancellation expenses.
